Ōsui (1808-?) authored several woodblock-printed books which included pictures of flower and (or) birds. Click on a book's title, shown below, to see these pictures. Ōsui drew the shapes of his flower and bird subjects only semi-accurately and colored them in shades of gray. This Chinese-infuenced drawing style was popular with artists who wished to reveal the inner spirit of the objects they drew rather than their actual shapes and colors. |
